Registration can be a busy and stressful time for runners, so our team ensures everything runs smoothly. Volunteers are on hand to assist with parking, tracker allocation, bib number collection, and a variety of other essential tasks that help participants feel supported and ready to race.At the finish line, the atmosphere shifts to celebration. Duties include helping with awards ceremonies, food service areas, and general marshalling across a large, dynamic site. This team plays a vital role in creating a welcoming environment, guiding runners through their final steps, and ensuring the event closes with the same professionalism and energy it began with.&nbsp;🏕 Aid Station CrewingAid Stations are the lifeblood of the event, and each one operates under the guidance of an Aid Station Captain. To keep everything running smoothly, we require a minimum of four crew members at every station throughout the event🔹 Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Set‑up: Build temporary shelters or prepare indoor halls to create a welcoming space.</li><li>Runner Support: Assist participants with refilling bottles and hydration packs.</li><li>Food Service: Lay out and maintain a variety of food options for runners to help themselves.</li><li>Atmosphere: Provide boundless enthusiasm, encouragement, and care—lifting the spirits of runners who may be tired, sore, or in need of a morale boost.</li><li>A shoulder to lean on—or a gentle nudge forward when it’s needed.”</li></ul>&nbsp;✨ Aid Station Crews are more than just helpers—they’re the heartbeat of the event. Volunteers in this role are vital for keeping communication clear, accurate, and responsive across the course. 🔹 Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Radio Operations: Monitor event radio channels, relay messages between checkpoints, logistics, and the event director, and keep a clear log of communications.</li><li>Admin Support: Record runner progress, track volunteer shifts, and log incidents or updates as they occur.</li><li>Logistics Coordination: Assist with directing vehicle movements, equipment drops, and DNF (Did Not Finish) pickups.</li><li>Volunteer Liaison: Help manage sign‑in/out, meal distribution, and provide support to the wider team.</li><li>Calm Under Pressure: Maintain composure during busy periods, ensuring information is passed on quickly and accurately.</li></ul>·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;If you feel confident that you are capable of taking on one of these roles, or if you have relevant experience from your day‑to‑day job or from previous events, we’d love to hear about it. You’ll follow the final runners, tidying up as you go—removing markings, collecting litter, and making sure the trail is left just as beautiful as we found it.It’s not just about cleaning up—it’s about sharing the journey with the most determined runners, the ones digging deep to reach the finish. You’ll get to experience the entire race route or stages at a gentler pace, soak up the atmosphere, and give a friendly nod (or cheer!) to those pushing through the toughest miles.✨ If you enjoy being outdoors, , and want to play a vital part in the event while keeping things light‑hearted, this is the perfect role for you.&nbsp;🚐 Logistics TeamThe Logistics Team is the backbone of the event, ensuring that everything and everyone gets to where they need to be. This role is perfect for those who enjoy being hands‑on, organised, and part of the action behind the scenes. 🔹 Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Equipment Transport: Move event equipment and supplies between checkpoints and aid stations.</li><li>Volunteer Support: Drop off and collect volunteers at their designated locations.</li><li>Runner Assistance: Pick up participants who are unable to finish (DNF) and ensure they are safely returned to the event base.</li><li>On‑Call Duties: Respond to logistical needs as they arise, keeping the event running smoothly.</li></ul>🔹 Why It MattersWithout the Logistics Team, the event simply couldn’t function. You’ll be the link that keeps aid stations stocked, volunteers supported, and runners cared for. It’s a role that combines responsibility with camaraderie—and gives you a front‑row seat to the incredible effort of everyone involved.✨ This role is ideal for people who like variety, problem‑solving, and being trusted with important tasks that make the whole event possible.&nbsp;

Your Journey

&nbsp;All volunteers are an essential part of the event team, and to ensure consistency and safety, volunteers are bound by the same Race Rules as competitors, along with the following additional points&nbsp;📋 Volunteer Rules (Additional to Competitor Race Rules). General Terms<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers: Nothing in this agreement should be interpreted as an offer of employment, paid work, or a contract for services. There is no obligation on you to assist Crystal Outdoor Events Ltd, nor any obligation on Crystal Events Ltd to provide volunteering opportunities.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Contractors: Contractors will have received a separate written agreement or contract of services from the organiser. Contractors are bound by the terms outlined in that agreement.</li></ul>. Good Conduct<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers and Contractors must uphold the good name and reputation of the Event and Organiser.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">At the sole discretion of the Organiser, anyone deemed to have behaved inappropriately will be required to leave immediately. In such cases, Volunteers will lose entitlement to travel expenses, event credits, and any other benefits, and must return all clothing/equipment issued.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">No smoking is permitted on the Event site. Smokers must be at least 100m away from others.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Animals: Dogs or other animals are not permitted unless express permission is granted by the Race Director .</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Alcohol: May only be consumed when ‘off duty’, with no further responsibilities that day.</li></ul>. Confidentiality<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers and Contractors may come into possession of sensitive or copyrighted information. This must be kept strictly confidential and not disclosed to any third party.</li></ul>. Benefits<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers receive no financial remuneration.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Agreed expenses (e.g. travel) will be reimbursed upon production of receipts.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Benefits provided include:</li><li class="ql-align-justify ql-indent-1">Main meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner)</li><li class="ql-align-justify ql-indent-1">Event uniform and merchandise (when supplied)</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Uniforms should be worn when supplied, and any conflicting brand logos must be avoided.</li></ul>&nbsp;. Travel &amp; Accommodation Expenses<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Travel expenses (parking, mileage for event duties) will be reimbursed after the Event with proof of payment.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Accommodation costs are not covered.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">In the event of cancellation, Crystal Outdoor Events Ltd is not liable for costs incurred (travel, accommodation, equipment, etc.).</li><li class="ql-align-justify">The Organiser reserves the right to cancel, postpone, or amend the Event due to circumstances beyond its control (e.g. severe weather, natural disasters, terrorism, pandemics, local authority restrictions).</li></ul>. Event Credits<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Credits may be used towards future event entry or transferred to another runner (by emailing Crystal Events).</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Credits are not exchangeable for cash.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Credits must meet race rule criteria and runner declaration requirements.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Once a credit is used to enter an Event, it is subject to the same Terms &amp; Conditions as a paid entry. Withdrawal from the Event may result in loss of credit.</li></ul>Volunteers are not employees or workers and are not entitled to wages or the National Minimum Wage. Any benefits offered, such as meals, uniforms, training or discretionary discounts on future event entry Credits, are provided solely as a thank‑you gesture for volunteering.<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">&nbsp;&nbsp;Crystal Outdoor Events Ltd may, at its discretion, offer volunteers a reduced entry fee (for example, up to 75% off) for a future event. This discount: is not</li></ul>contractual and is not guaranteed.<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Is offered only at the discretion of the Organiser and may be withdrawn or amended at any time.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Does not create any entitlement to wages, employment rights, or worker status.</li></ul>Risk &amp; Responsibility<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteering at the Event is a potentially hazardous activity. Risks include serious injury, disablement, or death.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers and Contractors are responsible for their own actions, safety, and any injury sustained.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">By volunteering, you confirm you are fit, healthy, and capable of performing the duties expected.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteering is undertaken with full knowledge of the challenges presented by the Event.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Crystal Outdoor Events Ltd will take all reasonably practicable steps to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of volunteers during the event.</li></ul>&nbsp;. Safety<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">The Organiser will take reasonable steps to ensure safety.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers must immediately inform the Organiser if asked to perform a task they feel unsafe, untrained for, or unsuitable for.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers are responsible for assessing their own suitability for tasks and must decline duties that could jeopardise safety.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">PPE will be provided for each role. Volunteers must also bring their own waterproof jacket, headgear, and suitable footwear.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers should dress appropriately for weather conditions.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">The Organiser accepts no responsibility for loss, theft, or damage to personal clothing/equipment.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Insurance: Volunteers are covered under the event’s public liability insurance.</li></ul>. Media &amp; UAVs<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Photography, film, video, and sound recordings may be taken during the Event. Volunteers consent to being included and waive all rights to such media.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">The Organiser has full authority to use this media worldwide, in perpetuity.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers must follow all safety instructions when UAVs (drones) are in use.</li></ul>. Data Protection<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Personal data provided by volunteers will be stored securely and used only for event administration.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Crystal Events Ltd will comply with UK Data Protection law (GDPR). Data will not be shared with third parties except where legally required.</li></ul>Withdrawal from Role<ul><li>If, for reasons beyond your control, you are no longer able to carry out your volunteer role for the event, we kindly ask that you give us as much notice as possible. Things To Do &nbsp;Derwent Pencil MuseumThe factory for the Derwent Company opened in 1832, and the company was here until 2007 when the base was moved to Workington.The Pencil Museum has a reproduction of the Seathwaite Mine where graphite was found for the first time in the 1550s and charts the history of pencil-making in the town.There are pieces of vintage pencil-making machinery, as well as an explanation of how pencils are manufactured in the 21st century.The museum also possesses the largest colouring pencil on the world, produced in 2001 and measuring a little under eight metres long.Derwent WaterThe lake is roughly three miles long, with an eight-mile perimeter trail that you can do in half a day. It’s an ideal half‑day escape just a short drive from Keswick.&nbsp;CatBellsOn Derwentwater’s western shore is one of the Lake District’s most treasured fells. At 451 metres, Catbells has a modest height and a moderate grassy slope that can be tackled by walkers of almost any age and fitness. You can crest Catbells on a circular trail that climbs from the lakeshore and takes around three hours to complete, depending on how often you pause to soak up the landscapes.&nbsp;From the top you’ll be wowed by clear panoramas of Derwentwater and its islands, along with Keswick’s townscape, Borrowdale to the south and Skiddaw to the north.&nbsp;Stone CirclesCastlerigg is thought to have been a gathering place, where groups journeying from the coast in the west and the Eden Valley in the east would have met on their way to axe factories and summer grazing in the Lake District’s central fells.&nbsp;&nbsp;The circle is one of the earliest in the UK, between 4,000 and 5,000 years old and made up of 38 standing stones up to three metres high&nbsp;Walla CragAnother Walk that you begin in Keswick meanders to the top of this 380-metre hill, right on Derwentwater. Walla Crag can be done in an afternoon or evening, as the summit faces west, so you can see the sun go down over the lake and its islands, as well as Grasmoor and Grisedale Pike.
